Nikon's StabilEyes binocular provides the kind of stabilization needed for such high magnification. In benign conditions with 7 or 8x binoculars, it is relatively easy to get a large, steady image up close and personal. But as magnification increases, this becomes a more difficult task. Eventually the smaller field of view and more pronounced shake of a large optic can render big binoculars a very frustrating affair.

The 12x32 StabilEyes provides 3 of stabilization in every direction, making them actually useful in such situations as tracking a moving subject while on a moving platform yourself. They're great for observing from airplanes, helicopters, boats, etc. And as a completely waterproofed unit, they can be used effectively anywhere.

 "Superb, clear, sharp images" 2005-12-04

I was looking for Canon IS binoculars, I ended up with the Nikon instead. The Nikon is FAR superior to the Canon in anything even close to the same price range. I admit, I got extremely lucky, the shop I went to looking for image stabilization binoculars was closing out their Nikons and I got a fantastic deal on the RealTree (camoflauge) version of the 12x32 StabilEyes. These are exactly the same as the standard (black) version as far as specifications go. I'm not sure if the black ones will float, these will.

Ok, first impression was extremely clear, clean and undistorted view. I'd been using 10x50 Nikons and to be honest, just too much jiggle hand holding anymore as I get older, that's why I wanted to go to an image stabilized binocular. Looking through the StabilEyes with out VR turned on, I was impressed with the optics. This is the first set of binoculars where I could really use them with my glasses on. Now the magic..I turned on the VR and wham! The image stabilized, not quite rock steady, but as close as you can get without taking a picture! The image that had been jiggling, now suddenly very slowly "floated" and maintained its clarity! As I purpsefully moved my hands a bit one way or the other, the image remain very clear and precise. Ok, I bought them. Tried them out at night looking at stars. Perfect pin-point images. Looking at the planet Mars, once I turned on the VR (Vibration Reduction or Image Stabilization) I could very clearly see it was a disk (planet). Look at other stars, I could very clearly see they were points of light. NO color fringing, and as close as I could tell, perfect edge to edge sharpness.

Had I known these Nikons were this good, I would have never considered the Canons. These are waterproof, the Canons aren't. These are nitrogen filled (no fogging in cold weather) the Canons aren't. These have a +/- 3 degree of VR, the Canons only have 1 degree.

I couldn't put a higher recomendation on these, you won't be sorry if you get them.
