I was amazed at the small size being so well constructed and the super sharp clarity. In fact I was so impressed I ordered the C-1650 for night viewing of the stars and general use. I received these as a gift a few years ago. I've used them mostly to view theatre shows and some near field outdoor viewing. The objective lense is fairly small (21mm) making this a poor choice for low-light viewing like outdoors in evenings or cloudy days. I really don't have too many compaints about this binocular but I don't have many praises either. It's middle-of-the-road; mediocre. They aren't very powerful (8x), but there are binoculars on the market that are only 6x or less so these are not the weakest either. They are VERY light, small, compact and portable. I have dropped them and they still seem to focus equally in both barrels; so I think that indicates a good build quality. The neck "strap" is simply a woven cord about the size of a shoelace. Fortunately, this binocular is light weight or the neck strap would be uncomfortable. This binocular is rubber coated to give it some water resistance; however, I don't think these are considered "armored" or water-proof. It comes with a small piece of flannel lense cleaning cloth. This cleaner seems to do little more than smear the lenses with some sort of oily coating. I think I would have been better off to have dusty lenses than oil streaked lenses. Perhaps a strong alcohol (90% or stronger isopropyl) would be a better cleaning choice than the flannel cloth. It comes with a black cordura case with a belt loop on the back. It's a decent choice for "opera glasses" if you're looking for something compact to view live theatre or sporting events with. I don't consider this to be a good choice for hunting or rugged use. I recommend this binocular for use as "opera glasses" but not much more. You'll get noticable magnification out to around 200 yds (183m); beyond that this binocular is pretty useless.

These binoculars have pretty decent resolution. Just a little too quick to go into battery saving sleep mode when trying to spot and take a good shot. The magnification of the pictures isn't exactly the same magnification as the binocular, but it is very close! After taking multiple shots in multishot 3 photo mode, the device resets itself to the default single photo setting. This causes you to memorize keystrokes to get back to the multishot setting in order to get additional shots if you are still spotting with the viewfinder. It's not difficult though, just a hair inconvenient. Recording video with this device gives surprising clear results. The video is about 8 seconds worth for each shot. During playback, the video is a little fast on the playback speed but still very viewable. Again, after shooting video, the device resets back to single photo mode. I don't use the included software to view the pictures. I just hook this up to a USB port and my Mac (and Windows computer at work) reads it as an external thumb drive. I just click through the folders and I can view the images or movies. There is no special USB cord for these binoculars. It uses the standand mini-USB so you can have multiple cords if needed. For the price, this is a great cheap thrill. Several of my friends are buying some after seeing mine and the quality they produce.

I have owned the Galileo 8x22 compact binoculars for several years and have used them for bird watching and opera. I have been extremely happy with them. The image is sharp and clear, they have a nice field of view and are so light they fit in a jacket pocket. Sadly, they are also small enough as to be easily lost. I left mine in a theater and between the time some kind person picked them up and when I retrieved them from the lost and found they must have been dropped. They now show a double image and must be used as a monocular. Fortunately they are also very inexpensive and I will not hesitate to replace them with another pair. An excellent buy.

I have purchased three of these binoculars, all three are of excellent generally, but all have two big weaknesses:



1: The "for eyeglass wear" extensions threads do not fit snugly when extended, they creep backwards causing readjustment inconvenience.



2: The focus adjustment mechanism on the right hand side tube is very loose, will not stay in place causing frequent readjustment.



I like these binoculars very much but the above two shortcoming are big distractions.
