 "Used for Hunting..." 2009-11-24
By AZ hunter (AZ USA)
I bought these binoculars for hunting Coues Whitetail deer in Arizona. All day medium to long distance glassing is required. I put quite a few miles on in very rough country. The glasses held up well, taking a few unintentional thumps. The clarity around the edges at a distance of about 300 yards or more is not as good as I had hoped, but was adequate. Closer viewing seemed clearer. No eye strain after a week of glassing. The front lens covers tend to get knocked off easily, but I liked the way they were linked to the body and kept the lens clean. The rain guard also functioned well. Focus adjustment is a little touchy and took some getting used to. Overall very happy.

 "Great Mid-Range Binoculars" 2009-11-03
By HNA, Soddy Daisy, TN
In my opinion, any of the Nikon Monarch series represents a good investment for someone interested in purchasing a premium set of optics without spending a great amount of money. My wife and I use my 12X42s for such activities as: wildlife viewing, scenic observation, boating, and hunting. The 12X magnification provides great distant viewing without the tendency to have shaky images. Also, viewing is crisp and bright in limited periods of light. Finally, the relative compactness of the 12X42s makes them useful for most field uses. I carefully research products before I purchase them. If you are considering buying a great mid-range set of optics for yourself or someone else, you will be pleased.

"As Much As I Wanted" 2009-10-04
By T. J. Smith (Seattle WA)
As another reviewer noted these are way better than the inexpensive Bushnell's that I've owned in the past. I always seemed to select binoculars that I was comfortable either dropping off the side of the boat or leaving at the stadium. That said, these are the nicest binoculars I've ever owned.

Now before you go off thinking I don't know what I'm talking about in a binocular review - I have not owned but have used extensively all the high end binoculars. Swarovski, Leica, Steiner, etc. I've used them all. These binoculars are not as good as those. These are about 60% as good as those. HOWEVER they cost about 1/5 of those other ones so based on that they are a pretty good deal. They are waterproof; they are a nice size in your hands and not too big to carry.

The image is bright and clear to me. All that stuff about edge distortion and color shift doesn't make a lot of sense to me - I don't have the patience to figure out what that means and, let's face it, most people don't really notice anyway. When I look through these they are bright and clear.

In summary I recommend these binoculars for the following activities - Yeti spotting, Sasquatch sighting, Swamp Ape hunting perhaps even sighting a Chupacabra (although I believe they are nocturnal). These will also be great to have when going to the Grand Canyon, whale spotting (narwhals are my favorite) and any other activity where you need that "close up" perspective. Regardless of your quarry I think you will like these binoculars if you don't care about your friend being impressed by your selection in optics on your next big game hunt.

EDIT - my goodness, I guess my true feelings about these binoculars doesn't really come though in this review as evidenced by several "not helpful" votes this review received. While mythical/unknown creature search is JUST ONE potential use for these I must say that I'm passed delighted with these binoculars. I've used these on several trips along with day to day use at home. In all cases these have outperformed my expectations. As noted above the ergonomics are outstanding and the image brightness and clarity are top notch. I use these on the water quite a bit and added a floating neck strap to ensure I don't lose these if/when they are accidentally knocked overboard. Although I've not spotted a swamp ape, sasquatch or yeti I would not hesitate to use these in any situation and pack them for all my outdoor trips. Even though I've had the opportunity to use all the high end binoculars I won't be replacing these Nikons anytime soon. As such, I've changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. At least get these before you drop the big $$ on a high end pair.

 "Exceptional product!" 2009-09-29
By James Anderson (Colorado, USA)
I needed a new set of binoculars to replace my old cheapo ones. I talked to others at the local Department of Wildlife and they recommended Swavorski. Of course, if you looked at the price of those binocs, you'd know that you might have to take out a loan to buy a pair. I checked numerous reviews and found that these binocs rated well against several classes of binocs. I got into the field and was overly impressed. Keep the Swavorskis. My Nikons handle the job just fine!

Excent quality binoculars. Have used them for 3D shoots and plan to use them this month for a self guided bow hunt in Colorada.

The Nikon 7432 Monarch Binoculars are rugged, yet lightweight, with an excellent field of vision and great clarity. They are ideal for general use, e.g. sporting events, hunting and bird watching. An excellent value for the price.

"Perfect for the average hunter!" 2009-12-28
By Bradley Vandyke (Vansant, VA United States)
I love these Binoculars! I bought these binos to use while hunting and at the occasional sporting event or concert I get attend. Like many working people, I only get to hunt a few times days during the season. I was looking for a nice set of binos that had great features (waterproof, fogproof, etc.) without spending ridiculous money like the pros do. I read many reviews and decided on the Monarch ATB's. I love them! For the money you will not beat them. They are clear, have great light transmission, adjust easily, and are perfect size. Like others have said the lens covers pop off a little too easily but nothing that a little doctoring won't take care of. I looked through my buddies $1100 binos and there is very little difference. I laughed at him after he looked through these. I think he was a little sick when he found out how much I paid compared to the amout he paid.

I would buy these again in a heartbeat. Great purchase!!

 "Great Pair of Binos" 2009-12-26
By Outdoors Enthusiast (Wisconsin)
All in all, a great pair for the price. Lightweight, crisp and clear viewing, and very compact for 10x50. The only downside is that the bottom lens caps don't quite fit. They are slightly too small, so they keep popping out. Will have to replace them.

 "First good binoculars" 2009-12-19
By BobShap (Dania Beach, Florida United States)
Really hard for me to write a review as I have nothing with which to make a comparison. If I order something and it comes in a timely fashion, feels good and solid if it is one of those type items that should have that feel, works easily and quickly, and, in this case, gives me clear and bright views, then I am satisfied and that is worth 5 stars.

"Up close and personal - Sandhill Cranes!" 2009-12-01
By N. C. SIDERS (New Mexico)
Watching the sandhill cranes come home to Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge in the evening compared to our old binoculars, was spectacular with the new Nikon 7432 Monarch binoculars! The annual Christmas bird count is coming up on 19 December 2009. My husband who received these binoculars for his birthday is looking forward to it!

 "Great choice for me" 2010-01-08
By J D Mullen
I can't use technical binocular terms here but I do know what I like. I had a pair of Nikon lightweights that my wife had bought me about 20 or so years ago and the optics were super so I must admit prejudice for Nikon. I wanted something more powerful for all round use and the reviews by "birders" were what I keyed on when I became interested in the Nikon Monarch 7340's. I did note that in the older reviews many were unhappy with the lens covers but everyone was impressed with the optic quality and build quality of the Monarchs. I ordered a pair and after a half day at the local beaches and scanning the hills surrounding, I must admit that I am impressed. I can even read the phone number on the trash can at a neighbors driveway at least 300 yds away. I spent some time with an old pair of Sears 7x50 glasses that I bought in the 70's.. made in Japan and they are good but so heavy they are not fun or practical to use. I just wanted a benchmark and the Monarchs blow them away in all categories.

The covers that came with my glasses seem good..very good to me. I have not snagged them on anything to test how rugged they are but a close exam and a little use today..hey I like them. The objective covers are the "inside the lens housing" type and they are attached to the binoculars with a little snap and flapper which keeps the covers always on the binoculars and all that is needed is a little tug at each cover to use your binocs. Returning them is literally a snap. They fit flush and this allows you to stand the binocs on the objective lens covers on a table or anything else flat. The rain guard is also trick. It is permanently attached to the neck strap on the left with the right side having a loop for attachment if you want but it is notched and easilly removed from the strap so as to get it out of your way. I just left it attached to the left side and unattached on the right for conveniance. When I am not using the glasses I cover them up for obvious reasons.

The Monarchs are just weighty enough to suggest quality but not heavy enough to discourage me from taking them along. The case provided is just fine. The glasses fit snugly inside..no room to stuff the neck strap in there. The case has a Nikon nammie tag on it so I am ok with it. These are great.I don't go anywhere outside without them.

 "for the birds" 2009-12-21
By inky
I needed a new pair of binoculars. Until now, I've used a more portable pair. I'd always thought the optics were fine. But, the first time I took these out, the difference was obvious. The clarity, sharpness and depth of field are all excellent. The image through the lenses seems brighter than the actual conditions. I have never seen birds so clearly. The fact that these binoculars are waterproof means there are no worries in less than optimal conditions.

Save thousands and go for Japanese products instead of Austrian/German products, the quality difference is very small.

 "Replacement Binocs" 2009-11-30
By Dr Mark
I purchased these based on the recommendation of a fellow birder. They were selected due to the longer focal length which allows me to use them without removing my glasses. They are wonderful. The field of view is very bright and clear. I can again focus both eyes through the instrument. An added bonus was the great price.

 "Very Nice" 2009-11-17
By Chad Gauntt
Recently, my father let me borrow a pair of his VERY expensive Swarvoski binoculars. I was extremely impressed and decided to buy a nice pair for myself. Not wanting to spend $1,800+ on binoculars unless absolutely necessary, I did a fair amount of research and settled on these, with the idea that I could send them back if necessary. I'm not sending them back. I'm not sure they have quite the "wow" factor as my fathers, but they're pretty darn close. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the image and the brightness. The images are extremely crisp, the binoculars feel very good in my hand and are extremely comfortable to use and are worth every penny. I agree with other reviewers regarding the lens cap covers -- they're cheap and fairly useless. But they stay on in the case and serve their purpose. No big deal.

I very highly recommend these binoculars for anyone wanting a very nice quality pair of binoculars without breaking the bank.
