Purchased one of thes not too long ago and have come to absolutely love it. It is light, easy to carry and fits perfectly in your hand. The buttons are located in a position that makes them easy to use. Almost from the first use, I could tell the buttons apart and did not have to look to make sure which I was pushing. Operation of the unit is very intuitive. I only read the instructions once and could easily understand how to use it, and how to change modes while I am using it.



It measures distances rapidly and unless I am measuring at a really steep angle to the item it has never had difficulty returning a measurement during my learning process.



This rangefinder is easy to carry and very accurate. It was money well spent!!!!

Just used this Nikon LR1200 today for the first time. Specific likes:

- well made, compact size fits easily in my golf bag- no larger than my open hand; made by Nikon, who know something about optics...what more could you want?

- waterproof construction- Nikon claims you can old it under 5' of water for 5 minutes without damage.

- easy to use; 1 button point and shoot.

- I have the co-branded Calloway unit, which comes with a nifty little pouch that slips around the unit to protect it and has cover to protect front optics. Lacks one for the rear eyepiece but I found that a soda cap fits perfect.

- Image is clear and sharp; 7x optics quickly pick up distant objects; worked well on the white pin flags at a local course. Quickly picked up a flag at 525 yds! Zeroed in on a truck at 735 yds. Pins within 250 yds easily detected.

- unit allows you to "pan" your field and will display the closest object first. Very neat when you need to resolve a pin flag with a bunch of trees in the background.

- the optics have a diopter adjustment to compensate for vision.

- the battery compartment is very secure. (screw on cover with o-ring, that you can tighten/loosen with a coin

- after some on-line searches, picked it up new for $289, free shipping and no-tax... Great buy; compared to the $400+++ Bushnell 1500/1600 units.

- tried a Bushnell 550 before this... dont even bother thinking about using their 4x model... not suited for golf. And read reviews on some of the other Bushnell units before you buy.

- based on my two experiences, this LR1200 wont disappoint;

- hopes this helps; I am a real hacker (bogey golf) and was disappointed when I went searching for reviews.

I bought these binoculars for hunting Coues Whitetail deer in Arizona. All day medium to long distance glassing is required. I put quite a few miles on in very rough country. The glasses held up well, taking a few unintentional thumps. The clarity around the edges at a distance of about 300 yards or more is not as good as I had hoped, but was adequate. Closer viewing seemed clearer. No eye strain after a week of glassing. The front lens covers tend to get knocked off easily, but I liked the way they were linked to the body and kept the lens clean. The rain guard also functioned well. Focus adjustment is a little touchy and took some getting used to. Overall very happy.

In my opinion, any of the Nikon Monarch series represents a good investment for someone interested in purchasing a premium set of optics without spending a great amount of money. My wife and I use my 12X42s for such activities as: wildlife viewing, scenic observation, boating, and hunting. The 12X magnification provides great distant viewing without the tendency to have shaky images. Also, viewing is crisp and bright in limited periods of light. Finally, the relative compactness of the 12X42s makes them useful for most field uses. I carefully research products before I purchase them. If you are considering buying a great mid-range set of optics for yourself or someone else, you will be pleased.

As another reviewer noted these are way better than the inexpensive Bushnell's that I've owned in the past. I always seemed to select binoculars that I was comfortable either dropping off the side of the boat or leaving at the stadium. That said, these are the nicest binoculars I've ever owned.



Now before you go off thinking I don't know what I'm talking about in a binocular review - I have not owned but have used extensively all the high end binoculars. Swarovski, Leica, Steiner, etc. I've used them all. These binoculars are not as good as those. These are about 60% as good as those. HOWEVER they cost about 1/5 of those other ones so based on that they are a pretty good deal. They are waterproof; they are a nice size in your hands and not too big to carry.



The image is bright and clear to me. All that stuff about edge distortion and color shift doesn't make a lot of sense to me - I don't have the patience to figure out what that means and, let's face it, most people don't really notice anyway. When I look through these they are bright and clear.



In summary I recommend these binoculars for the following activities - Yeti spotting, Sasquatch sighting, Swamp Ape hunting perhaps even sighting a Chupacabra (although I believe they are nocturnal). These will also be great to have when going to the Grand Canyon, whale spotting (narwhals are my favorite) and any other activity where you need that "close up" perspective. Regardless of your quarry I think you will like these binoculars if you don't care about your friend being impressed by your selection in optics on your next big game hunt.



EDIT - my goodness, I guess my true feelings about these binoculars doesn't really come though in this review as evidenced by several "not helpful" votes this review received. While mythical/unknown creature search is JUST ONE potential use for these I must say that I'm passed delighted with these binoculars. I've used these on several trips along with day to day use at home. In all cases these have outperformed my expectations. As noted above the ergonomics are outstanding and the image brightness and clarity are top notch. I use these on the water quite a bit and added a floating neck strap to ensure I don't lose these if/when they are accidentally knocked overboard. Although I've not spotted a swamp ape, sasquatch or yeti I would not hesitate to use these in any situation and pack them for all my outdoor trips. Even though I've had the opportunity to use all the high end binoculars I won't be replacing these Nikons anytime soon. As such, I've changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars. At least get these before you drop the big $$ on a high end pair.

I needed a new set of binoculars to replace my old cheapo ones. I talked to others at the local Department of Wildlife and they recommended Swavorski. Of course, if you looked at the price of those binocs, you'd know that you might have to take out a loan to buy a pair. I checked numerous reviews and found that these binocs rated well against several classes of binocs. I got into the field and was overly impressed. Keep the Swavorskis. My Nikons handle the job just fine!
