Rugged, weatherproof construction. Scan mode continuously updates the range as you track a target or scan an area. The precision thermometer gives you digital readings in ¿C or ¿F. Accurate to 750 yards, with measurements in feet, yards, or meters. The Quick Set Rotary Menu® is easy to use, for fast customization of your RX-II. Also includes the Quick Start Mode. Available with Mossy Oak® Obsession® camo, Mossy Oak Treestand¿ camo, or two-tone black/gray finish. Battery power indicator for easy battery level checks. The common CR2 lithium camera battery is easy to change in the field. Multiple Ballistics Settings¿RX rangefinders with True Ballistic Range (TBR®) provide accurate aiming information matched to the performance of your rifle or bow. By calculating the incline, line of sight range to the target, and a projectile¿s ballistics, your RX provides rifle hunters using Leupold Ballistics Aiming System¿ reticles as well as bow hunters the correct equivalent horizontal distance for precise shooting on an incline. In other words, aim using the True Ballistic Range, not the line of sight range. Rifle hunters can also get this data as an MOA adjustment or a holdover point. With practice, long distance/steep angle shooting will become second nature. Dial in your RX to one of seven TBR ballistics settings for the rifle and three for the bow for incredible accuracy. TBR is effective to 800 yards for most rifle cartridges.

"One of the best monoculars for the price!" 2009-07-20
By M. Hernandez
I am a supervisor for a Meter Reading Department and the majority of our employees prefer this product over so many other monoculars we've used in the past. It has the best range from 7 to 32, the diameter of the scope is larger than most which makes for a greater viewing area. The only problem we've encountered with these monoculars is that they're not waterproof/resistant. When it rains moisture will get into the item if not careful. Other than that, its a great buy.

Very good Monocular and if you wear glasses it has great eye relief. It is a lot more convenient to carry than a set of binoculars , but it is larger than I expected

"Reasonable but awkward scope, especially nice for close-focus viewing" 2008-07-22
By Megarat (Squirt Island, USA, Earth)
This would be a lovely monocular if it wasn't for a few critical flaws.

With the 32mm objective, it provides a very nice image, even for distant viewing. Much better than most other monoculars I've tried. That you can get a quality image with such a long focal range (18" to infinity) in this relatively small unit is to be applauded.

It comes at a cost, however.

There are actually two focusers on this scope. One for close-focus (roughly 16 feet and less), and one for distant. They're easy to confuse, plus you can't switch from one to the other without completely focusing all the way back. In other words, it's almost impossible to get a quick focus. When not in use, it's best-advised to keep the scope at its neutral state (focusing at roughly 16 feet), and then use the appropriate focuser when you need it: zoom in, or zoom out. (And hope you don't get them confused, because that will waste several seconds.) This can be awkward and frustrating, especially with nature studies.

If you expect that you will only use one focuser 90% of the time, then you will probably be delighted with this unit. But if you expect to frequently go back and forth between birds and insects, you'll find yourself wishing for something more elegant.

A nice feature is the tripod mount, which lends this scope extremely well to the capacity a desk-mounted spotting scope, for the office or living room. The tripod mount, however, is also where you attach the lanyard mount (it screws in), so they cannot be used concurrently. Also, attaching the neck strap to the tripod mount, as it were, is not the most comfortable set-up. It's sufficient, but it seems to swing around a lot. Alas, there's no other choice.

The eyecup also screws out, to accommodate users with glasses and without. Another nice feature you don't usually see in bargain optics.

This monocular was slightly larger than I expected, being roughly the size of a (tapered) soda can; not a downside for me, but something to report anyway.

The case and neck-strap are junk; they fell apart before receiving any actual use. I hope that doesn't reflect the built-quality of the scope itself.

I'm not as down on this monocular as it sounds -- it's currently my favorite for going into the field -- but it's not without its caveats. It works for now, but I would love to find something better and easier to use (without breaking the bank).

 "Works as Advertised" 2008-06-22
By GeoKs (Calgary, AB Canada)
We bought a monocular to use as a geocaching tool. The key feature was the ability to focus on close items (18 inches). The product works very well and the optical quality for the price is excellent. It seems to be very solidly built. We have also taken the monocular on our mountain hikes and have been very pleased with its performance for bird and animal watching. Knocked a star off because it is not waterproof.

 "SO easy to use!!!" 2010-07-12
By Noah Vale (Long Island, NY)
The only complaint I could think of to levy against this gem is that somehow I imagined this would be a little smaller, and that's really my fault. That being said, this is the easiest focusing piece of optics you can get. Pick one up, folks.

 "Not just for birdwatching" 2009-10-26
By Emerald Highlands (Sequim, WA)
I've used this monocular increasingly over the last few years as my birdwatching events have increased, but it was invaluable on a recent driving vacation through several northeastern states. Functioning as the navigator, I was generally able to spot street and highway exchange signs and then actually read them much sooner than otherwise and then to advise the driver.

 "Almost perfect..." 2009-09-21
By Daniel Worthington
A meter readers dream, I LOVE this scope. I use it to read meters from a distance several hundred times a day, 5 days a week. It fits nicely in my shirt pocket, the focus is ETREAMLY FAST! The fact that the scope rests in the palm of your hands steadies the finger shake picked up from barrel scopes. The offset in the optics allows you to invert the scope to give you an extra inch of height when looking over fences, as well as the fact the scope is operated entirely from one hand, which is priceless when standing on your tippy toes to see over something, or are hanging from a wall you've gotta look over. There is only one draw back I have with this thing. It's only available in 8x, if it were a 10x32 it would be absolutely perfect. Although the optics can be easily changed out from most cheap 10x25 binos, but if you do the swap, the objective must be moved forward about 5mm for proper focus.

Carson Bandit 8x25 Quick-Focus Monocular I think anyone looking for a monocular will be happy with this product. It fits well in my hand including the focus. The focus takes a little practice because it is so sensative. It's really handy to carry and the image is clear. I'm glad I purchased it.

 "Bought and Returned" 2010-01-17
By Darius K. (White Hall, MD)
I purchased the RX-IV because of the "precision" electronic compass. As a rangefinder it worked OK. The furthest target I ranged was a small tool shed at 700 yards. The distance matched well with an estimate using Google Earth. I never tried the BOW mode, but limiting it to 60 yards is a severe shortcoming. If you are ranging deer as they come in, you need more than 60 yards without having to change modes.

As for the compass, no matter how many times I calibrated it, or set the magnetic declination manually, it was wildly off in most directions. Using known points, true north read about 44 degrees. true south was off by about 30 degrees. A test where I took four readings 90 degrees apart, produced terrible results. That last one was the acid test. Oddly, in some directions, for example around 300 degrees, it worked OK.

The printed manual never describes how to take a ranging, it just describes setting the functions. the order in which functions are set is illogical. For example, the ">150" mode is always the first, and is not something I would be likely to change much. There doesn't seem to be a way to escape from configuration mode, either.

I also question the true ballistic range (TBR) feature. For flat shooting cartridges at shorter ranges, the TBR and line of sight (LOS) become identical, regardless of the inclination angle. I would expect the TBR to become equal to the true horizontal range. Not that it matters much for such cartridges, but it does limit the RX-IV's utility for other purposes.

BTW, I asked for support from Leupold using their online system. No response, I guess they the RX-IV is problematic. Once my account is credited, I'll order a Bushnell 1200.

 "Leupold Rangefinder 1500 yard" 2007-11-11
By Eric M. Freier (Colorado to Michigan)
Leupold RX-IV Digital Laser Rangefinder with 1500 Yard Maximum Range, Waterproof, Black/Grey, with Case

I am not sure if 1500 yards maximum range is an accurate statement. The farthest I could get this to range a 48 inch diameter Oak tree was 588 yards. I couldn't get a reading on a deer which was less than the distance to the Oak tree.

For bow hunting, the true distance to the target is a great feature if it did not have a fixed 8 power magnification. I tried to range a deer at 30 yards and it took me 5 seconds to find it in the reticle and it was like looking at a big wad of fur.

overall, I expected more out of Leupold. I was dissapointed.

Recently purchased the Rx-Ii rangefinder from Leupold. As always with Leupold, was extremely please with the quality and clarity of the optics. Was surprised on how compact and light weight it was. I'm still trying to fine tune it but simple to adjust with some practice and time to do so. Can't wait to get out this November for my deer hunt and range in some bucks with it.

 "Good Monocular" 2006-11-05

I purchased the monocular for its size, I wanted an optics without the size found in even the smallest binoculars. It fits comfortable in my jacket pocket, for field viewing, sports, or general sightseeing. The belt carry case is very good too, I found if you twist the monocular slightly than back again it comes clear of the carry case.

"Decent optics for the price." 2006-08-08
By Max Weigel
I bought this to carry in my backpack and when riding my motorcycle off-road. I am hoping it will hold up better with the abuse than my last pair of binocs. This monocular was very cheap and works at least as good as I hoped. It is small so the light gathering is not that great and the field of view gets pretty small at the higher zoom settings. In addition anything over 12x zoom gets very hard to focus. That said, I can still read the address on the door of the offices accross the vacant lot behind me that are about 1/2 a block away (maybe 300 yards) that I can't even see the writing with my naked eye. As something to have around all the time this is just the ticket so far.
